Luye Charcoal Roast Organic Formosa wulong tea is from Luye Township in Taitung County on the eastern coast of the island of Taiwan. This well-known, picturesque, tea-producing region houses tea gardens that were established in the 1960’s on the steep hillsides within an area that is less than 1,000 acres. This tea is produced from the Qing Xin cultivar that is grown at an elevation about 500 feet. After harvest the leaves undergo repeated rolling in cloth bags while being oxidized at high heat, resulting in tightly rolled leaves that have been oxidized to about 80%. They then receive a heavy charcoal roasting.
The leaves unfurl to yield a smooth, clean, and syrupy, medium-bodied infusion that is complex and rich with sweet and stewed fruit notes, a subtle toastiness, and a lingering sweet caramelized sugar finish.
Leaves may be infused multiple times.
