Tie Guan Yin Dark Roast is a wulong tea from Bengkulu Province in the southwestern part of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The Tie Guan Yin cultivar is typically used to produce wulong teas in the Fujian Province of China; however, it thrives in the rich, volcanic soils and subtropical climate at an elevation around 3,900 feet in this mountainous region. After harvest, the leaves are rolled, mid-oxidized and then heavily charcoal-roasted.
The rolled leaves unfurl to yield a medium–bodied, smooth, viscous, sweet and flavorful infusion with rich notes of caramelized sugar, cacao, and a subtle spice and roast.
