Makinohara Estate Genmai Hojicha, also known as brown rice tea, is a green tea that is produced on the Pacific coast in the low-lying area of the city of Makinohara in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. This estate is the largest tea plantation in Asia and it produces about 30% of the tea in Shizuoka. The region benefits from a humid, temperate, marine climate and is ideal for growing tea. Our Genmai Hojicha is a blend of Sencha and Kukicha that has been aged for four years, then roasted and blended with roasted and puffed brown rice.
The blend yields a smooth, and flavorful, medium-bodied infusion with a rich, savory, roasted and toasted aroma and taste that is deeper and richer than Genmaicha. The roasting process reduces the amount of caffeine in the leaves.
