Champawat Estate is a full leaf organic black tea from the Kumaon Region in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Uttarakhand is a small, remote, relatively unknown tea-producing state in northern India that is located in the Himalayas. It is a very mountainous and picturesque region where only a few tea estates and smallholder farmers produce tea, primarily in the Kumaon Division in the southernmost part. The Champawat Estate is one of the oldest tea gardens in India’s Himalayas. It was established in the Kumaon Division in the 1920’s and is currently approximately 472 acres.
The tippy leaves yield a smooth, balanced, sweet, and complex, medium– to full-bodied infusion that is aromatic with fruity, earthy, subtle cacao, and the typical fresh hay notes of the teas originating from the Himalayas.
